Guest Blog
by Connie Dunn

First, you may be wondering what a “Virtual Book Tour” is? In the past, book authors would travel around the country, speaking, reading excerpts of their book, and signing books. Most of that would happen at the big box bookstores. In today’s virtual world, however, more book tours are taking place on the Internet, especially those independently published.

Since the tour takes place on the Internet, it is done through “Guest Blogs.” Perhaps, you now understand where the “Community” part comes in. To tour, you need to visit blogs. While touring with a book, it might seem natural to want to post on blogs that match the book topic. However, it is not necessary that every Blog match perfectly. The signature on the Guest Blog is the part that promotes the book and has a link back to the book’s page.

Authors pick blogs to tour that they can write articles that fit with the topic of the blog. For example, recently Helen Chin Lui published a children’s book, “Through My Mommy’s Bellybutton”. Her book is written from the point of view of the baby in the belly, so her tour blog might include parenting blogs, moms-to-be blogs, or even fertility blogs. Since Helen is a Reflexologist and Energy Medicine Practitioner, she might also write articles for holistic healing blogs.

My tour is to promote my book, “Press Releases Made Easy.” I will want to tour on marketing and public relations-type blogs, as well as many others. As a writer, you can connect a lot of things to a book topic without directly relating to the book. As I suggested with Helen’s tour, she can tour other holistic healing blogs.

As a writer, I can tour other writers’ blogs, plus a whole lot more! It’s going to be an adventure and today is the first day! So come along with me and visit some parts of the Web you haven’t ever seen! Check out the tour at http://www.conniedunnbooks.com/events.
