Her experience in business started when she was 24 and opened her first restaurant. Sunnyside Cafe, formerly Wally’s, in downtown Ashland. A year and half later, a baby and the second Sunnyside and what Lisa refers to as a Peyton Place divorce, Lisa bought her former husband out, sold Marlboro and ran the Ashland shop alone. This lasted for a year until she decided no amount of money could make cooking eggs and making the donuts her destiny. She sold. No plan.
As a way to cope she signed up for aerobics at The Joy of Movement in Natick. This was when aerobics was leg warmers and arm circles. One day the teacher did not show and before the class began to leave Lisa said, ” I can do this,” If you want to stay I’ll give it a whirl and so began her next career.
Lisa went straight into Boston and began training as an apprentice with the top directors and soon became part of the “Elite” Traveling with Reebok, sat on Rykas board of directors, competing and educating new teachers. She opened Ashland Nautilus during this time and founded Priceless Bodies, the first Personal Training studio in MetroWest and the second training studio to open in Massachusetts.
Lisa was a trainer, a teacher , a competitor and a educator. Her career took a turn when she was approached by Boston Sports Club and offered a position as area Fitness Manager, responsible for group exercise and building personal training programs for five of their big box Boston Clubs. Corporate America was not for her. After three years she left , began training again in her basement. Content to be her own boss again until another corporate fitness company found her and offered her a position where she would build a business again, be an educator, a leader and for the most part an entrepreneur which she did for almost 6 years.
In 2009 Lisa enrolled in a Yoga for Life 200-hour teacher training. As a practitioner off and on for many years she was at a point in her life when she needed to learn something new and the Yoga philosophy always intrigued her. Her intent was not to teach, rather just to learn. The class changed the course of her life in many ways and was the catalyst that has helped her find a sense of calm and acceptance. Practice and letting go of end results.
Now, owner of The Red Dress and founder of Spot on Solutions, Lisa has found a place to utilize all her experiences, fitness, yoga, personal training, educator, business owner, entrepreneur and leader. Everyday she practices. This practice has led to her interest in Community-based entrepreneurship. How do we support each other in fulfilling our professional dreams? Through community and supporting one another, we can accomplish so much more. Find out more at the next Dream Factory Luncheon at her store, The Red Dress in Ashland.
