As I re-visit this book that I used for years in my business development groups, I am excited by the difference these concepts make when you apply them: Success always starts with a clear vision.
If you take a page out of The E-Myth Revisited, an entrepreneurs wear 3 hats: The Leader/Entrepreneur who has the vision, the Manager who handles the goals, actions to move the business forward, and the Technician who does the actual work of the business. The author, Michael Gerber, says that most businesses are started by technicians and the myth he talks about is that just because you are good at something—you can create a successful business doing it.
You need that thoughtful visionary leader who can vet the idea for practicality and be inspired enough to stand for its creation and fruition. Not from arrogance or ego, but the desire to be committed to an idea worth fulfilling.
The beginning of greatness starts there. That type of leader holds the space where others want to jump on board to be part of it. Within the leader’s vision—others find their vision and it becomes a community idea that everyone is enrolled in pursuing. Forget charisma—a this kind of leader builds a foundation that can be pursued long after they are gone. Good to Great—a wonderful book by Jim Collins, can guide you through a process of applying key concepts that will enable you to move from good to great.
